The Fairfield Warde and girls basketball teams are headed in opposite directions.
Kate Kerrigan scored 22 points Tuesday as the Mustangs defeated the Rams 63-54 Tuesday night in Fairfield to extend their winning streak to six games.

Jamera Fountain added 13 points for Fairfield Warde, which improved to 10-5 overall and 8-5 in the FCIAC.
Nenw Canaan suffered its third straight loss and dropped to 8-7 and 6-7. The Rams fell two games out of an FCIAC playoff spot with five games left in the regular season.

Courtney Rogers scored 18 points and Sarah Mannelly added 13 to lead New Canaan.
Warde climbed into a six-way tie for sixth with Westhill, Darien, Stamford, Norwalk and Staples. The Bears and Wreckers pullled off upsets Tuesday, defeating St. Joseph and Wilton, respectively.
The Mustangs pulled away from a 25-20 halftime lead by outscoring the Rams 24-15 in the third quarter to take a 49-35 lead into the final period.

The Fairfied Warde boys basketball team moved within one game of clinching a berth in the state tournament after routing New Canaan 69-31 on Tuesday.
Sam Martens scored 17 points and Matt McTague added 12 for the Mustangs, who improved to 7-6 overall. Warde has won two straight since its 44-43 loss to Fairfield Ludlowe.
The lopsided score allowed 12 Warde players to enter the scoring column.
The Mustangs put away the game with suffocating defense in the first half, building a 22-4 lead after the first quarter and extending it to 38-8 at the intermission.
Claude Chandonnet was New Canaan's leading scorer with just eight points. The Rams dropped to 1-12.
Warde's first chance to clinch a state tournament berth with come on Friday when it hosts Trinity Catholic.

The New Canaan boys hockey team looks to snap Ridgefield's 11-game winning streak when the FCIAC rivals clash Wednesday at the Winter Garden Arena (8:30 p.m.).
Still ranked second in the state, the Ridgefield extended its winning streak with a 3-2 victory over Fairfield on Saturday. The Tigers have not lost since suffering a season-ending 3-0 defeat to top-ranked Fairfield Prep.
However, New Canaan (8-3-1) has been almost as hot as Ridgefield with just one loss in its last eight games (6-1-1). The Rams are coming off a 3-1 victory over Greenwich on Saturday.
At 3:30 p.m., the undefeated New Canaan girls team (14-0) takes on Ridgefield at Winter Garden. The Tigers are 10-4 following Saturday's 3-1 setback to Greenwich.
