The girls basketball team received a scare Tuesday night from a Ridgefield team that is better than its record might indicate.
Kelly Armstrong scored a season-high 23 points as the Rams rallied in the final minutes to defeat the Tigers 59-54 on the road.

New Canaan, which was coming off a 62-56 loss to Staples, improved to 8-4 while Ridgefield dropped to 4-7.

Emily Favorite paced Ridgefield with 20 points and Gemma Howard added nine points for the Tigers, who snapped a four-game losing streak with a 75-12 drubbing of Bassick on Friday.

A stifling defense against a struggling offense produced a predictable result.
Kurt Steidl scored 16 points as the Ridgefield boys basketball team defeated New Canaan 64-38 on Tuesday to improve to 9-0.
Jeff Racy and Jack Heller each added a dozen for the Tigers, who have yet to allow 50 points in any game this season.
After buildig a 17-8 lead after the first quarter, New Canaan showed signs of life in the second quarter, when it was only outscored by a 16-13 margin to trail 33-21 at the intermission.
However, Ridgefield broke things open in the second half by outscoring the Rams 31-17 to remain unbeaten heading into a tougher stretch of its schedule.
The Tigers now face Danbury, Trinity Catholic and Bridgeport Central in succession, although all three games are at home.
Will Burger scored 11 points and Andrew Read added 10 for the Rams, who dropped to 1-9 overall and 0-8 in the FCIAC.

The New Canaan boys hockey team looks to extend its unbeaten streak to five games on Wednesday when the Rams visit Westhill for a 6:40 p.m. start at the Terry Conners Rink.
New Canaan (5-3-1) is coming off Monday's 1-1 tie against fifth-ranked Xavier as Jake Granato scored the tying goal for the Rams with just under five minutes remaining in the third period.
Chris Koennecke made 21 saves for New Canaan, which is 5-1-1 in its last seven games and 3-0-1 in its last four following an 0-2 start.
Westhill (0-7-1) remains winless following Monday's 5-3 loss to Branford.
