New Canaan Scores and Standings: Nov. 2

The football game between New Canaan and Stamford, originally scheduled for Friday, has been moved to Saturday at Boyle Stadium.

New Canaan coach Lou Marinelli said that because the team hasn't been able to practice due to school closings as a result of the storm, Stamford High School agreed to move it to Saturday. In addition, SAT's are scheduled for Saturday, so the game will start at 5 p.m.

After being postponed on Tuesday, the FCIAC boys soccer playoffs are set to resume Wednesday with the semifinals at Fairfield Ludlowe.

No. 8 seed New Canaan faces No. 4 Staples at 5 p.m. before No. 2 Trumbull takes in No. 3 Darien in the second game at 7 p.m.

Staples, which is seeking a fourth consecutive FCIAC title, advanced with a 1-0 win over Greenwich. The eighth-seed Rams stunned Norwalk 2-1, marking the second straight year New Canaan upset the top-seeded Bears in the quarterfinals.

The finals, originally scheduled for McMahon, now will be played at Fairfield Ludlowe on Friday at 7 p.m.

The FCIAC girls soccer playoffs are scheduled to resume with three quarterfinals on Wednesday with the higher seeds hosting the games. (One contest was played on Saturday as No. 5 seed Greenwich defeated No. 4 Darien, 1-0).

Here is the updated schedule (a time still hasn't been determined for the Trumbull-St. Joseph game):

Wednesday

No. 8 Trumbull at No. 1 St. Joseph, TBA

No. 7 Warde at No. 2 New Canaan, 5 p.m.

No. 6 Wilton at No. 3 Westhill, 3 p.m.

The semifinals have been moved Thursday (5 and 7 p.m.) at Norwalk with the final now set for Saturday at 2 p.m. at Fairfield Ludlowe.

The FCIAC has announced that the field hockey quarterfinals will be played on Wednesday at two sites: McMahon and Fairfield-Warde

McMahon, Stamford vs. Staples, 5 p.m., Westhill-Darien, 7 p.m.

At Warde: Norwalk-New Canaan, 5 p.m., Ludlowe-Wilton, 7 p.m.

The semifinals at set for New Canaan on Thursday (5 and 7 p.m.) with the finals pushed back until Saturday at 10 a.m. at McMahon.

The start of the FCIAC girls volleyball playoffs have been delayed until Thursday. Here are the quarterfinal matchups (all at 4 p.m.):

No. 8 Fairfield Ludlowe at No. 1 Darien

No. 7 Danbury at No. 2 Ridgefield

No. 6 Stamford at No. 3 Staples

No. 5 Greenwich at No. 4 New Canaan

The CIAC has announced that the state Open cross country meet, scheduled for Friday at Manchester's Wickham Park, has been postponed until next Tuesday.

The site of the meet also has been changed as the girls and boys races now will be take place at at Hammonasset State Park in Madison. The boys will start at 1:45 p.m., followed by the girls at 2:30 p.m.

Darien won the Class L boys championship on Saturday at Wickham Park, which is unavailable for the state Open because of damage it suffered in Saturday's snowstorm.

The Open competition will determine which runners qualify for the  New England championships Nov. 12 at Ponaganset High School in North Scituate, R.I.
