The New Canaan Red fourth grade football team dropped a 15-8 decision to Wilton in the semifinals of the FCFL playoffs.
Just three plays into the game's opening drive, Robert Evans ripped off a 70-yard touchdown run, his 16th of the season, to give New Canaan the lead.

AJ Eason, Jaden Konspore, James Gilman, Andrew Smith, Jack Hynes, Greg Korsun, Zach Boland and Owen Lynch provided blocking on the short drive, which started with runs by Ryan McAleer and Nick Gilio.
New Canaan's first attempt for a 2-point conversion pass play failed, but an interference penalty gave it another chance. On the second attempt, McAleer ran the ball into the end zone for an 8-0 lead.

Wilton was stopped on its first drive as Tyler Saitta broke through the offensive line for an 8-yard loss on third down .
Red's defense was led by Greg Korsun, Thomas Marshall, Charlie Mullaney, Nicky Hoge, Tyler Saitta, Xander Arnone, McAleer, Colby Gardiner, Diego Ferreira, Riana Afshar, Steven Hoge, Jack Anderson, Dylan McDonald, Luke McPhillips, Andrew Morse, Alec Kazlauskas and Evans.
New Canaan led 8-0 at halftime. However, Wilton tied the game with a 12-play drive on its first possession of the second half. Wilton then took advantage of a turnover to march 30 yards for the go-ahead score.
If the New Canaan boys soccer team wants to continue in the state tournament, it will have to get past its archrival.
The defending Class L state champions visit No. 5 Darien in a Class L second-round showown on Monday at 2 p.m.
Neither team had much trouble in the first round. No. 12 seed New Canaan (10-4-5) advanced with a 3-0 win over Lyman Hall and No. 5 Darien (13-3-3) defeated North Haven by the same score.
During the regular season, Darien and New Canaan played to a 1-1 tie on Oct. 10.
The winner of Monday's clash gets either No. 4 Bunnell or No. 13 in the quarterfinals. New Canaan defeated Bunnell in the state finals last season.
Eight FCIAC teams have reached the second round of the state tournament: No. 3 Norwalk, No. 7 Trumbull, No. 11 Staples, No. 17 Greenwich and No. 19 Westhill in Class LL and 5 Darien, No. 12 New Canaan and No. 16 have advanced in Class L.
There are two head-to-head matchups involving FCIAC teams Monday as Norwalk hosts Westhill for a spot in the final eight.
Also on Monday, the 11th-ranked New Canaan field hockey team is at third-seeded Norwalk in the quarterfinals of the Class L state tournament. The winner gets either No. 2 Glastonbury or No. 10 Stamford in the semifinals on Wednesday.
Monday's clash is a rematch of an FCIAC quarterfinal, won by New Canaan 1-0 on Nov. 2.
In one of two all-FCIAC battles, the seventh-seeded New Canaan girls soccer team hosts No. 18 Trumbull on Tuesday (5 p.m.) in the quarterfinals of the Class LL state tournament.
The Rams (15-3-3), who lost to Fairfield Warde in the semifinals of the FCIAC playoffs, have advanced with 2-0 wins over Middletown and Hamden.
Trumbull defeated No. 15 Norwich Free Academy 3-2 on penalty kicks in the irst round, then stunned No. 2 seed South Windsor 1-0 in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
In the regular season, Trumbull and New Canaan battled to a scoreless tie on Oct. 5.
The winner of Tuesday's contest advances to the semifinals and will take on either No. 6 Newtown or No. 14 Cheshire.
Five FCIAC teams have reached the round of eight. In the other quarterfinals, No. 25 Ridgefield, which has upset two top-10 seeds, takes on No. 1 seed Glastonbury and No. 5 Westhill faces No. 20 Staples in another all-FCIAC affair.
Westhill has reached the Class LL final in each of the last two years. The Vikings won the state title in 2009 before losing to Shelton in last year's final.
Staples stunned the defending state champions 1-0 on Saturday in a dramatic affair that went to four rounds of penalty kicks before the Wreckers finally prevailed, 14-11.
The New Canaan's U12 girls Black soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Trumbull in its final game of the season. Kelly Conheeney and Courteney Newman shared time in goal for New Canaan.
After Trumbull scored its first goal on an indirect kick in the first quarter of the game, Conheeney made four saves to keep it a 1-0 game. New Canaan had a chance to tie late in the half, but Rachel Panzano's shot was just wide. In the second half, Newman played well in goal for New Canaan.
