St. Luke's Senior Commits To Siena College

Brett Connors, a highly touted 6-foot-1 infielder from , signed a baseball National Letter of Intent during the early signing period this week to attend Division I Siena College beginning next fall.
Connors also been recruited among others by Bucknell, Lafayette, Holy Cross and Richmond. He was named to the Rawlings 2011 Top Prospect Team, the Perfect Game Northeast 2011 Top 40 Prospects and was a member of Team Connecticut this summer, winning the Triple Crown U.S. Baseball Championship in Richmond, Va. and being awarded MVP for the tournament.

As a junior this past season at St Luke’s, Brett was named All-League Connecticut Fairchester Athletic Conference batting .488 with a .930 slugging percentage.
Connors has a long local baseball history playing on teams for the Town of New Canaan for 10 years (1999-2008) including seven New Canaan All-Star teams.

Connors becomes only the third New Canaan resident in the last 10 years to be recruited from high school to play Division I baseball, joining Curt Casali NCHS 2007 (Vanderbilt and now in the Detroit Tigers' system) and Alex Farina NCHS 2011 (Lafayette).
Siena College is located in Loudonville, NY, and this year Princeton Review named the school the “2011 Best College in the Northeast”.
Siena plays in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) and is led by head coach Tony Rossi, who is the second-longest tenured active NCAA Division I head coach. Rossi has coached 35 players who have gone on to sign professional contracts.
This past season, the Saints reached the MAAC championship game for the second time in four years. Other schools in the MAAC include Fairfield, Iona and Manhattan, so local fans will get a chance to see him play.
“I am excited to be going to Siena," Connors said. "It’s a great school to major in business, play baseball and help coach Rossi return to the NCAA baseball tournament."
The seventh-seeded New Canaan girls soccer team was upset by No. 18 Trumbull 3-0 Tuesday in the quarterfinals of the Class LL state tournament.
The 18th-seeded Eagles (10-4-6), who upset No. 2 seed South Windsor in the previous rounds, will take on No. 6 Newtown in the semifinals on Friday or Saturday at a site to be determined.
New Canaan, which also was upset in the semifinals of the FCIAC playoffs, finished the year at 15-4-2.
Noah Radecki, a West School second-grader, finished fourth on Sunday in the Connecticut State Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships in the Sub-Bantam age group.
Radecki ran an 8:34 over the hilly 2,000-meter course at the White Memorial Conservation Center in Litchfield in one of the fastest state Junior Olympic races to date.
Radecki’s time now ranks him in the top 30 in the country and his placing qualifies him to advance to the New York/New England Junior Olympic Regionals on Sunday in Lake George, N.Y.
The top 20 finishers in the age group Sunday will advance to the national championships in December in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
