New Canaan Girls Take Second at State Open

The New Canaan girls swimming team placed second Saturday in the state Open meet at Yale University.
The Rams posted a team score of 431.5, finishing behind only Greenwich, which claimed its seventh consecutive state Open crown.

Maddie Rusch led the way for the Rams with a pair of top-three finishes. She was second in the 50-yard freestyle (23.96) and third in the 100 butterfly (57:02) and also swam on two relay teams that finished in the top five.

N.C. Runners Compete in Regional Junior Olympic Cross Country
Two runners from New Canaan competed this past Sunday in the New York/New England Region 1 Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships in Queensbury, N.Y. The race brought together the top qualifiers from all of the New England states and the Eastern portion of New York state.
Noah Radecki, running in the boys’ Sub-Bantam age group, clocked an 8:15 over the 2,000-meter course to place 11th. Elizabeth Wells, running for the Wilton Running Club, was timed in 12:53 over 3,000 meters to finish 51st in the girls’ Midget division.
Radecki’s run qualified him to run in the Junior Olympic National Cross Country Championships to be held Dec. 10 in Myrtle Beach, SC.
