Clare Detrick-Yee scored with 13 minutes remaining in the first half Thursday as No. 2 Wilton advanced to the FCIAC field hockey finals with a 1-0 win over No. 6 New Canaan.

The goal came after Valentina Tudisco took Wilton's fifth penalty corner of the first half and passed on the stick Detrick-Yee, who beat New Canaan goalkeeper Britt Gardella, who made five saves for the Rams (10-5-1-1).

Wilton (16-2) will be seeking its first field hockey title in school history on Saturday when the Warriors take on Staples in the final at McMahon at 4 p.m.

In Thursday's first game, Staples stunned Darien 1-0, ending the Blue Wave's 93-game unbeaten streak, which had been the third-longest in high school field hockey history.

The New Canaan girls volleyball team pulled off a dramatic comeback, rallying from two games down to defeat Greenwich 17-25, 21-25, 25-20, 25-22, 16-14 in the quarterfinals of the FCIAC playoffs.

Andrea Mullaney had 21 kills, 10 digs, eight blocks and  five service points for the Rams (15-4), who earned semifinal date with top seed Darien on Friday at 7 p.m. at Fairfield Ludlowe.

No. 2 Ridgefield and No. 3 Staples will meet in the opener of the semifinal doubleheader at 5 p.m. at Ludlowe. 

The New Canaan football team looks to move one step closer to the FCIAC championship game on Saturday when the 7-0 Rams visit Stamford in a 5 p.m. kickoff.

The contest originally was scheduled for Friday, but was pushed back one day at New Canaan's request.

Matt Milano threw three touchdown passes last week as the Rams fought off a challenge from New Canaan, 28-14.

New Canaan could be on course to meet Staples in the FCIAC championship game Nov. 18 at Trumbull's McDougall Stadium and the Rams can book their reservations with wins over Stamford at Trumbull next week.

The Black Knights enter Saturday's contest with a 4-2 mark after blasting Fairfield Ludowe 45-0 last week.

Stamford is led by the Boderick brothers, Bryan, who is the quarterback, and twin Barry.

The CIAC announcing Thursday it has postponed the start of its state tournaments to allow  extra time for conferences to complete their own playoff tournaments.

State tournaments in soccer, field hockey, volleyball and swimming, scheduled to start on Monday, now will be begin Thursday. Pairings will be announced Wednesday.

Volleyball and field hockey state championship games now will take place Nov. 18-19. Girls and boys soccer championship games will be played the following weekend.
