The Rams (6-0-2) are undefeated in defense of their CIAC Class L state championship, although they are coming off a surprising 1-1 tie against winless St. Joseph (0-6-3). New Canaan may have been caught looking ahead to Monday's clash.
At 7-1-1, Darien is clearly the FCIAC most surprising team under first-year coach Jon Bradley. After going just 2-6-7 last year, the Blue Wave boast an FCIAC-best 22 points, two points ahead of Staples.

Darien is coming off its first loss of the season, a 1-0 defeat to Wilton on Thursday, although the Blue Wave did have a season-opening 7-1 setback to Westhill that was reversed when the Vikings were forced to forfeit three games for using an ineligible player.
The New Canaan football team (4-0), which rallied from an 11-point deficit to defeat McMahon 36-33 on Thursday, is sixth in the CIAC Class M state rankings. The Rams are one of 13 teams still unbeaten in the division.
