Former New Canaan High School swimming standout Christian Higgins will be honored as the town's Sports Person of the Year at the Fairfield County Sports Commission's seventh annual Sports Night awards dinner.
The dinner is set for Monday at the Hyatt Regency Greenwich at 6 p.m., and tickets are still available at $125 apiece.
Currently a freshman at the University of California, which is the defending NCAA national champion, Higgins also swam for the Wilton Wahoos, who boast one of the premier programs in the country.

The highlight of the year for Higgins came in the spring at the YMCA Short Course Championships when he set national records in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events. Higgins currently holds 24 Connecticut state swimming records.
WTNH-Channel 8 sports director Noah Finz, a Greenwich resident, is the emcee for the evening. The newest members of the Fairfield County Sports Hall of Fame and 15 Sports Persons of the Year from county communities will be recognized.

Sports personalities slated to attend are former Yankees pitcher Tommy John, ex-NY Giants football player Bob Hyland, Lowes Moore, who played with the New Jersey Nets, former world boxing champion Travis Simms and Wes Matthews, a two-time NBA champion with the LA Lakers.
