New Canaan Third Grade Red Blanks Fairfield
The New Canaan Red third grade football team defeated Fairfield 18-0 on Saturday in Fairfield County Football League action.
Hayden Shin opened the scoring with a 4-yard TD run before Chris Canet's extended New Canaan's lead with a 76-yard romp on 2nd-and-6. Canet scored untouched thanks to the blocking of Dylan Kortman, Charlie Borthwick, Jackson Lamorte, Jack Connors and Griffin Koch.

Trying to get back in the game, Fairfield was stopped on 4th-and-6 with Shin flying in to take down the Fairfield runner and give New Canaan possession at its 24-yard line.
Canet appeared to score on another 76-yard TD, but his second long run was called back because of a penalty. He came back to pick up nine yards, aided by the blocking of Bryce Harrell and Corey Pickering. Canet then converted a key 4th-and-8 behind the blocking of Mac Machale, Ben Marshall, Will Thomas and Jackson Slazyk.

Shin ripped off 12 yards for a first down at Fairfield's 30 with 1 1/2 minutes left in the half, but New Canaan couldn't convert and settled for a 6-0 lead at the half.
New Canaan stopped Fairfield on the first possession of the second half as Johnny Dunn broke up a pass on third and long.
After Fairfield forced a three-and-out, Harry Appelt recovered a fumble, which led to New Canaan's next score. Tommy Towers ran for 19 yards before Canet's 14-yard TD scamper made it 12-0.
New Canaan recovered another fumble on Fairfield's next possession after the ball was hiked over the quarterback's head.
Shin barrelled through four tacklers for a 6-yard gain and Towers scored from nine yards out to give New Canaan an 18-0 cushion.
Jack Murphy, who excelled at safety throughout the game, sealed the victory with an interception.
New Canaan is back in action on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. against Westport.
New Canaan Fourth Grade Red Defeats Westport
The New Canaan Red fourth grade football team remained unbeaten with a 27-16 victory over Westport South on Sunday that included two touchdown passes.
After three runs by Nick Gilio and Robert Evans, quarterback Andrew Smith tossed a 55-yard TD pass to Ryan McAleer. The right side of the line - Thomas Marshall, Charlie Mullaney, Alec Kazlauskas and Steven Hoge - provided protection for Smith.
After forcing a three-and-out, New Canaan scored again on McAleer's 30-yard run. Smith's pass to Thomas Marshall on the conversion made it 13-0.
After a sustained drive of nine plays, Westport turn the ball over on downs at its 45-yard line. New Canaan then took a 20-0 halftime lead on Smith's 35-yard TD strike to McAleer.
After Westport pulled within 20-8, Evans scored on 34-yard run, his 13th touchdown of the season. The successful extra point by Gilio gave New Canaan a 27-16 lead before Westport tacked on another touchdown in the final minute.
Thomas Marshall, Charlie Mullaney, Alec Kazlauskas, Steven Hoge, Andrew Morse, Greg Korsun and Jack Anderson anchored the line play while McAleer, Gilio, Smith and Evans also delivered key blocks.
Marshall and Mullaney executed a key sack on a crucial fourth and short. Tyler Saitta, Nick Hoge, Colby Gardiner, McAleer, Smith and Evans made big defensive plays throughout the game, and late stops by AJ Eason, Dylan McDonald, Xander Arnone and Riana Afshar prevented another score by Westport.
New Canaan U-12 Soccer Falls tp Darien
New Canaan's U-12 Girls Black soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision to Darien. Lauren Sechan scored New Canaan's only goal in the second half when she converted a centering pass from Alana Tonghini after Darien had built a 4-0 lead.
The New Canaan football team, which defeated Norwalk 28-14 on Friday to improve to 5-0, is fourth in this week's CIAC Class L state rankings. The Rams trail Windsor (5-0), Hand (5-0) and New London (4-0).
There are still 10 teams undefeated in the division, including FCIAC rival Darien (5-0) and Masuk (5-0), the state's second-ranked team.
