New Canaan Red Bantams Defeat Fairfield
The New Canaan Red bantam fourth grade football team used an outstanding defensive effort to post a 28-6 victory Fairfield.
New Canaan had the ball first on offense and drove the length of the field with hard runs by Nick Gilio, Ryan McAleer and Robert Evans. The drive was culminated with a 39-yard touchdown run by quarterback Andrew Smith. The PAT was successfully completed with a 3-yard run by Gilio.

The offensive line did a stellar job opening holes on the first drive, as outstanding blocks by Steven Hoge, Alec Kazlauskas, Andrew Morse, Charlie Mullaney, Greg Korsun, Jack Anderson and Thomas Marshall enabled the Red to score first.
On the second offensive possession, New Canaan received the ball after a hard-hitting defensive effort led by Nicky Hoge, Tyler Saitta, Thomas Marshall, Charlie Mullaney, Greg Korsun, Ryan McAleer, Xander Arnone, Robert Evans and Colby Gardiner.

New Canaan took over at its 20-yard line and Gilio capped the drive with a 60-yard touchdown run, carrying half the defense with him. The extra point was successfully run in by Dylan McDonald for a 14-0 lead.
After another defensive stop, the offense took over in the third quarter. McAleer ended that drive with a 41-yard touchdown run as the entire right side of the line - led by Thomas Marshall, Charlie Mullaney and Steven Hoge - opened the hole for McAleer to score.
The point after was successfully run in by Riana Afshar, giving New Canaan a 21-0 lead after the third quarter.
Fairfield score early in the fourth quarter, pulling within 21-6, and recovered a fumble on New Canaan's next possession.
With only minutes remaining, Fairfield needed to pass, but Evans ended any hopes for a comeback by returning an interception 61 yards for the clinching score. The PAT was successfully run in by Andrew Smith.
Outstanding efforts also were turned in by Xander Arnone, Jack Anderson, Jaden Konspore, Andrew Eason, Zach Boland and Luke McPhillips.
