Pacioretty returns for Canadiens

New Canaan's Max Pacioretty was in the Montreal Canadiens' lineup Wednesday for their exhibition game against the Buffalo Sabres at the Bell Centre.

It marked Pacioretty's return to the ice six months after he suffered a cracked vertebra and concussion on a hit by Zdeno Chara of the Boston Bruins.

Before the incident, Pacioretty was one of the team's most effective forwards in limited action last season, scoring 14 goals and 10 assists with 39 penalty minutes in just 39  games.

While going through an extensive rehabilitation program, Paciorettty experienced an eventful offseason, signing a two-year extension with the Canadiens and getting married in the summer.

In 123 career games, he has scored 20 goals and 29 assists, racking up 86 penalty minutes. He was originally selected in the first round, 22nd overall, by the Canadiens in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

Pacioretty did not play in the Canadiens' exhibition opener on Tuesday, but did participate in two intra-squad scrimmages and was ready to play in a preseason game.

"It's good to finally get some physicality going, to take a couple of hits and give some as well," Pacioretty told NHL.com. "My neck's feeling great and I'm ready to go."

Pacioretty's recovery was relatively short, considering the extended absences for other concussed victims like Marc Savard and Sidney Crosby.

"I don't think I'm in the clear completely, I know some of these players many months down the road have experienced some symptoms," Pacioretty said. "So I'm aware of that, and I hope to keep getting as lucky as I have with my situation."
