Chelsea Piers Connecticut Announces Lacrosse Program

Chelsea Piers Connecticut (CPCT) announces the development of an elite travel lacrosse program led by former All American and current CPCT lacrosse director, Scott Bulkley.

Bo’s team tryouts will take place Oct. 22 at Stamford High School’s Upper turf field (behind the school).  Girla team tryouts will take place Sunday, Oct. 30 Greenwich Academy’s Lower Tammaro Field.  (See www.cpctlax.com for specific age group times and details and to register.) All registrations must be completed online at www.cpctlax.com.

The year-round travel program will field one boys and one girls team per age group from ninth-graders through high school seniors.  Each team will have a maximum 28-player roster and two coaches per team.

The team program will start with a rigorous summer 2012 training schedule on outdoor fields, and follow up with a fall and winter practice and play program held on CPCT’s 100-yard indoor turf field and in the Chelsea Piers CT Athletic Training Facility.  The teams will travel regionally to compete.

“I am excited to be creating what will be the best club program in Connecticut,” Bulkley said. "There is a lot of talent in Fairfield County.  With our outstanding athletic facility at Chelsea Piers Connecticut and a roster of talented, dedicated coaches, I expect that CP-LAX will quickly become a dominant force in Fairfield County “

New Canaanites compete in 24-hour Reach the Beach Relay

Two hundred miles in 24 hours.

That’s the motto for the 13th annual Reach the Beach Relay, which took place last weekend in New Hampshire. The Reach the Beach Relay is the longest distance running relay in the United States, stretching from Cannon Mountain in Franconia, N.H., to Hampton Beach State Park.

A local mixed masters team, Fox Chase II, comprised mostly of over-40ish New Canaanites, placed 47th out of the 430 teams that finished.

They raced through the night, going head-to-head over 36 legs with a sister team, Fox Chase 1 from Westchester, and finished in 23 hours, 56 minutes, just seven minutes ahead of their local rivals.

The race was won by perennial favorites, Hello Kitty AC, a wacky but elite mens open team in just under 19 hours, which is a 5:53 mile pace

New Canaan's tired team plans to repeat the challenge again next year, perhaps with a Fox Chase III contingent.

New Canaan football hosts Trinity Catholic in home opener

Ranked third in the state in two polls and sixth in the other, the New Canaan football teams hosts Trinity Catholic on Friday (7 p.m.) in its home opener at Dunning Stadium.

The Rams opened with a 49-6 victory over Bassick last Thursday at Kennedy Stadium. Senior quarterback Milano threw three touchdowns passes -- all to Connor Kilbane - as New Canaan opened its quest for a fifth state championship game appearance in six years.

Trinity Catholic held on for a 28-22 season-opening victory over city rival Westhill after building a 28-7 lead after the third quarter.

Last season, the Rams routed the Crusaders 48-8 in Stamford. Next week, New Canaan hosts Fairfield Warde and former top assistant
Duncan Della Volpe, who is now in his third season as the Mustangs' head coach.
