New Canaan U-11 Girls Lose In Connecticut Cup

The U11 New Canaan girls Black soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to West Hartford in Connecticut Cup play on Sunday.

New Canaan's defense, led by Nora Beladeau and Lauren Sampson and goalkeeper Natasha Tchir,  held West Hartford to one goal in the first half. Sara Spadaccini's corner kick set up New Canaan's only goal, scored by Bridget Salmini with an assist going to Kendall Patten.

With solid play from Kaitlyn Moussignac, Lauren Canet, Ella Goodman and Kiera Russo, New Canaan continued to battle in the second half.

Bexi Ainsworth, Karlijn van der Loo and Katharine Miller paced New Canaan's attack and Elizabeth Tedford played well in goal, but West Hartford scored twice in the second half.

New Canaan Revolution U9 Boys Soccer

The New Canaan Revolution Boys U-9 soccer team defeated Bethel 6-3 on Sunday continued its hot start.

New Canaan took an early lead on a goal by Colin Byrne off a great pass by Henry Welles. Despite the early success, Bethel came storming back with three straight goals to end the first half.

In the second half, the Revolution scored five unanswered goals. The offensive explosion was led by Henry Welles (1 G, 2A), Mason Dorman (1G), Boden Gammill (2G, 1A) and Jack Fannon (1G, 1A).

Jack Eccleston, Skyler Wilkes and Carter Alvord locked down the midfield with terrific crossing passes. The defensive wall was led by Ryan Corbett, Carson Perlman, Adam Rizvi and Alex Tchir while Jackson Alvord shut Bethel with a number of spectacular saves.

Rams Still Third In CSWA Football Poll

After defeating Trinity Catholic 41-14, the New Canaan football team (3-0) held on to the No. 3 spot in the Connecticut Sportswriters' Alliance and New London Day coaches' poll.

The Rams, who host Fairfield Warde and forner offensive coordinator Duncan Della Volpe on Friday, also remained No. 6 in the New Haven Register writers' poll.
