For interactive daily digest for all New Canaan scores, schedules and standings -- and a place to add information and photos for all youth sports

Top seed New Canaan (19-1) faces rival Darien in the semifinals of the FCIAC girls hockey playoffs on Wednesday at 8 p.m. at the Darien Ice Rink.

In the opener of the semifinal doubleheader, No. 2 Ridgefield takes on third-seeded Greenwich at 6 p.m. The two winners clash in the championship game on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Stamford's Terry Conners Rink.

New Canaan, whose only loss during the regular season came against Simsbury 4-3, beat Darien twice -- 7-2 on Jan. 27 and 3-1 on Saturday. The second game, as the score would suggest, was more competitive.

The New Canaan boys hockey team will learn its FCIAC playoff fate on Wednesday.

The Rams (12-7-1, 8-4) concluded their regular season Monday with a 7-1 victory over Wilton and await the outcome of Wednesday's games between Fairfield and Darien and Trinity Catholic and Westhill.

New Canaan, which is tied fourth in the FCIAC standings with Wilton at 8-4, will earn a berth in the tier one playoffs if either Fairfield (7-4) or Trinity Catholic (7-4) lose.

If the Mustangs and Crusaders both win, they will forge a four-way tie with the Rams and Warriors.

Since both own a tiebreaker edge over New Canaan, the Rams would be the odd ones out in the six-team tier one playoffs and drop down to the tier two playoffs.

The Darien-Fairfield game is set for 2 p.m. at the Darien Ice Rink, and the Rams will be in the odd position of having to root for their archrivals.

If Darien beats Fairfield, the outcome of the Trinity Catholic-Westhill game at 6 p.m. will have no bearing on the Rams' playoffs chances.
