The New Canaan varsity ski team won the mixed team division at the state championships on Tuesday. New Canaan had two top-ten finishes as Wilson Fleming and Jeffrey Cole placed fourth and eighth in the state, respectively.
The team also took fourth place overall in the all boys division, where it competes as a mixed boys and girls unit against 25 boys varsity teams in the league. It marked the first time that a mixed team had ever scored in the top five in the boys league.
The Connecticut Ski League includes more than 50 high school teams and 800 racers in the state who compete throughout the season at Mt Southington. New Canaan finished the season with an overall record of 18-4.

Fleming and Courtney Cole received All-State first team honors while Temerson Alexander earned honorable mention.
Six racers also were selected from New Canaan to compete in the All-State individual shootout series of slalom and GS races that took place Feb. 6-12: Alexander, Courtney Cole, Sarah Curt, Fleming, Jeffrey Cole and Eliot Pierpont.

New Canaan qualified two individuals from those races to the All-State team with Courtney Cole and Alexander finishing fourth and 10th in the state, respectively, in the girls division.
The Connecticut team will compete March 9-11 at the Eastern Regional High School Championships in Attitash, N.H. The competition includes the top high school skiers from 12 Eastern states.

The girls hockey team is on a mission to win another state championship.
Olivia Hompe scored four goals Thursday as the Rams charged into the state final with a 6-1 victory over FCIAC rival Ridgefield at the Terry Conners Rink.
New Canaan, which is seeking a third consecutive state title improved to 23-1 and will face Hall-Conard in the final on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Yale's Ingalls Rink.
Hall defeated Simsbury in the semifinals to reach the final. Simsbury handed New Canaan its only loss of the season, 4-3 on Feb. 6, but the Rams no longer have to worry about trying to avenge that defeat.
Madzie Carroll and Eloise Somerby also scored on Thursday for New Canaan, which only led 1-0 after the first period. However, the Rams broke it open with three goals in the second period to build a 4-1 cushion.
Anna Marcus had the only goal for Ridgefield, which finished the season at 14-6-1.
Heather Ogden (30) and Maggie Philbin (2) combined to make 32 saves for the Tigers, who lost a pair of two-goal games to New Canaan during the regular season.
