New Canaan Triumphs Over Wilton in 5-1 Win

New Canaan 2008 Black team came out swinging today at the Comstock Community Center here in Wilton, defeating the 2008 Gold team 5-1.

Emma Prior opened up the New Canaan scoring early in the first half with a strong run up the field, and a blast past the Wilton goalie into the corner of the net.

Larkin Celiberti showed impressive footwork to separate herself from the defenders to punch in another, to put New Canaan ahead by two.

Just before the half, Lindsay Hanlon took on two defenders, who almost tied her up, but Hanlon shoveled the ball in the air over the goalie to secure a third.

Amazing goaltending by Maddy Peterson froze out the Wilton forwards, with New Canaan ending the first half 3-0.

Starting off the second half with a bang, Jenna Vigano fired a rocket through a crowd to boost the New Canaan score once again.

A strong Wilton advance on the New Canaan net almost ended in a goal, but Emma Prior converted on their missed opportunity with a fast run up the sideline, capping the strike with New Canaan's fifth goal.

In the final minutes of the second half, Wilton's bark turned to bite as they mounted a strong attack, outmaneuvering New Canaan, to get on the scoreboard for the first time.

Natalie Hamilton and Charlotte Hanover played a strong game keeping the ball in Wilton's half, while Ariella Blatt and Serena Peterson kept Wilton on the defensive with brutal and constant offensive pressure.

With the final score 5-1, New Canaan secured its second win of the Spring season, but with a doubleheader next weekend, the pressure is on to keep their winning streak up.
