New Canaan's Food Emporium Is Closing

The store is scheduled to reopen this week as an Acme Market.

The Food Emporium of New Canaan is scheduled to close for business at 10 p.m. Monday.

A sign posted at the store announced it will reopen at 7 a.m. Friday, Oct. 23 as an Acme Market, according to The New Canaan Advertiser.

The New Canaan store was part of the sale of dozens of stores sold by A&P in July as part of a bankruptcy proceeding.

The two Greenwich stores were sold in July by A&P after the grocery company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Days later Acme Markets announced it would acquire 76 A&P stores in Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania under the A&P, Food Emporium and Pathmark banners.

The two Greenwich stores are scheduled to reopen at 7 a.m. Oct. 21 as Acme Markets.
