New Canaan's Macari Named To MSG Varsity All-Metro First Team

The junior led the state with 20 touchdown receptions

New Canaan's stellar wide receiver Kevin Macari on Tuesday was named to the inaugural MSG Varsity All-Metro first team, an All-Star squad that encompasses players from the tri-state area.

Three other New Canaan players were honored by MSG Varsity -- Notre Dame-bound offensive lineman Conor Hanratty and nose guard Ryan Shullman were selected to the second team while quarterback Matt Milano earned honorable mention honors.

Macari finished the season second in the state with 60 receptions for 1,259 yards, an average of just under 21 yards per catch. The senior had a Connecticut-best 20 receiving touchdowns, including nine in the Rams' three playoff games.

Milano passed for 3,128 yards - second in the state behind Masuk's Casey Cochran - and a state-best 42 TDs.  For the season, the junior completed 212 of his 350 attempts. Both of those marks also ranked first in Connecticut.

New Canaan (11-2) suffered a 50-20 loss to Masuk in the CIAC Class L championship on Saturday, ending the Rams' four-year state title run.
