New Canaan's U-10 Girls Black Defeat Newtown 6-4
The team improved its record to 2-1 and will face the Stamford Hurricanes Gold Team next weekend.

On Sunday, Sept. 21, the New Canaan Girls U-10 Black Team beat a tough Newtown squad in a thrilling game. Newtown began the scoring shortly after kickoff, moving the ball crisply in the New Cannan half. Rather than hanging their heads after this quick goal against, the Black Team picked up the pace and dominated the balance of the first half. The New Canaan scoring began with a breakaway goal from Katherine O’Connell. The New Canaan offense dominated the first half with strong play from Stella Nolan, Tessa Cosco, Annabel Fenwick, Lucia Crovatto, Peyton Zaletsky and Laurel Zaffino. Katherine O’Connell scored twice more securing a hat trick in the first half. Laurel Zaffino finished the first half scoring with an impressive goal just before the whistle. Emily Tedford, Grace Crookenden, Ella Imbruce and Cassie Warren provided strong defensive and mid-field support for the Rams.
The Rams began the second half with continued momentum as Caroline Langford added a goal to increase the lead to 5-1. Newtown quickly responded with a breakaway goal to narrow the New Canaan lead to 5-2. The Rams responded with intense offensive pressure and a flurry of shots on goal from Lucia Crovatto, Isabelle Schuh,and Kelly Marchiony. However the Newtown goalkeeper turned away all of these attempts. Newtown’s offense seemed to feed off this strong goal keeping and scored twice, narrowing the Rams lead to 5-4. Katherine O’Connell ensured the Rams victory by adding her fourth goal of the game as the match ended.

The victory over Newtown brings the U-10 Girls Black Team regular season record to 2 wins and 1 loss. The Rams travel to Stamford to face the Hurricanes Gold team next Sunday.
