New England Academy of Dance and New England Dance Theater is bringing the beloved story of “Cinderella” to the New Canaan High School Theater June 11th and 12th—As one of their full length classical ballet performances during their spring end of the year show.
A cast of 130 NEAD students, NEDT company members and professional dancers will present the original ballet of Cinderella in two performances scheduled at 7 p.m. Saturday June 11th, and at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 12th.
Adapted and choreographed by NEDT artistic directors, Frances Ortiz, Ted Thomas and Ginna Ortiz, the unique ballet is based on the familiar children’s story of a virtuous young woman who suffers hardships and injustice, but endures and is miraculously rewarded for her courage and kindness.
The leading role of Cinderella will be performed by the young and talented Emily Stute. The hilarious step-sisters are played by Kate Nusslein and Grace Stearns. Colleen Brereton will play the beautiful and magical fairy godmother. Severn Davies, Elizabeth Bochicchio, Sophie Graham and Celia Rogers are the lead season fairies. The NEAD version of the Cinderella ballet will also include cute little blue birds and kind mice, as well as town people, fairies, midnight stars, and wedding guests, all danced by the well-trained student dancers of NEAD.
