New State's Attorney Named to Stamford-Norwalk Judicial District

The state's attorney oversees prosecutors in the district, which covers New Canaan.

Richard Colangelo Jr. will serve as the new state’s attorney for the Judicial District of Stamford-Norwalk.

Colangelo succeeds David Cohen, who will retire on July 1 after 37 years in the court.

“The Criminal Justice Commission congratulates Attorney Colangelo on his appointment as State’s Attorney. We are confident that he will be a strong addition to the senior management of the Division of Criminal Justice,” Justice Richard Palmer said. “We also wish to thank all of the outstanding prosecutors who stepped forward and sought this important position.”

Colangelo joined the Division of Criminal Justice in March 1993 and most recently was senior assistant state’s attorney at Part A Stamford Superior Court. 

A state attorney serves as the chief law enforcement officer in the judicial district and oversees prosecutors. The district includes Stamford, Norwalk, Darien, Greenwich, New Canaan, Weston, Westport and Wilton.
