Norwalk Woman Accused Of Credit Card Fraud In New Canaan: Police

The alleged crime occurred in June at a New Canaan Historical Society event.

NEW CANAAN, CT — A 44-year-old Norwalk woman was arrested on multiple credit card fraud charges on Saturday in connection with the alleged theft of a debit card from a purse at a New Canaan Historical Society event in June, according to New Canaan police.

Sharon A. Toscano, of Winfield Street, surrendered to police upon learning that there was a warrant for her arrest.

The alleged theft occurred during a catered event at the society on June 2. The victim, an employee of the society, learned of it soon afterward when she was contacted by her bank of possible fraudulent activity on the account.

"A subsequent investigation determined that several charges/and attempts of charges were made in Norwalk immediately after the event concluded," wrote New Canaan police in a statement. "Video and still images of the suspect were obtained at each of the retail establishments and identification of Toscano was positively obtained as a result of the investigation."

Toscano was charged with:

  • Sixth-degree larceny
  • Greater than $500 charged on revoked credit card
  • Receipt from illegal use of credit card
  • Third-degree forgery
  • Credit card theft

She was released after posting bond on bail of $25,000 and is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Aug. 14.
