NEW CANAAN, CT — A number of cars and items inside vehicles were reported stolen in New Canaan over the past few days, according to Chief of Police Leon Krolikowski.

In a news release, Krolikowski said a 2016 Land Rover was reported stolen from a driveway in the area of Weed Street and Richmond Hill Road around 1:30 a.m. Friday. The owner said the keys were left in the vehicle, as well as a checkbook, laptop and some paperwork.

Around 7:15 a.m., another Weed Street resident called police to report an unknown vehicle parked in their driveway. Upon arrival, officers were informed the vehicle was the stolen Land Rover, Krolikowski said.

Around 7:30 p.m., an Overlook Drive resident reported their Ring doorbell camera captured footage of a person in their driveway trying to open the driver's side door of their 2022 Ford Edge at approximately 12:40 a.m. The door was locked and the suspect ran back to two running vehicles that were waiting on the street, Krolikowski said.

On Saturday afternoon, a leaf blower was reported stolen from an open garage on Cedar Lane. The owner saw the theft and was able to provide officers with a description of the suspect and their car.

A similar incident involving two people taking a push blower from a home in the area was reported on Oct. 26, Krolikowski said.

Early Sunday morning, a Shady Knoll Lane resident reported a person trying to enter a vehicle parked in their driveway. The resident provided officers with Ring doorbell footage of the incident.

According to Krolikowski, the suspect walked towards the driver's side door and attempted to open it, but it was locked. The suspect then noticed the driver's side window was down and reached in to unlock the door from the inside and opened the door.

As a result, the vehicle’s alarm went off and the suspect ran off. Nothing was taken from the vehicle, and the owner confirmed the driver's side window was open and the keys were in the cup holder, Krolikowski said.

That same morning, around 3:50 a.m., officers received a call from Hamden police regarding a possibly stolen car owned by a Fox Run Road resident having been involved in a crash in their town. When officers arrived in the area, they met with the homeowner who said their car had been stolen, Krolikowski said.

The owners said the car was unlocked and the keys were left inside. Around 6 a.m., Hamden police confirmed the vehicle involved in the crash was the one stolen from Fox Run Road, Krolikowski said.

While investigating, an officer noticed an unoccupied Toyota Camry parked on Mariomi Road near Valley Road. After further investigation, the officer discovered the Camry had been stolen out of New Haven.

Officers searched the area for suspects but did not find anyone, Krolikowski said.

Around 5:30 p.m., a Shady Knoll Lane resident reported their unlocked Land Rover had been rummaged through and a bottle of perfume was stolen. A neighbor captured video of a potential suspect attempting to enter a Jeep parked in their driveway around 12:30 a.m., Krolikowski said.

Please remember to always lock your vehicles and your homes," Krolikowski said in a news release. "Be sure to take your keys with you. Secure valuables; never leave valuables in your vehicle. Often, identity theft occurs when drivers' licenses and credit cards are stolen."
