On New Canaan’s Agenda: Farmer’s Market, Traffic Calming

Reappointing volunteers who preserve and protect the town’s historic places, green-lighting the New Canaan Farmers’ Market for this year and reviewing troublesome local roads are all on the agendas for officials meeting Tuesday to discuss several community-related matters.

One noteworthy item on the Board of Selectmen meeting in the morning is the reappointment of four residents to the Historic District Commission for terms expiring Nov. 15 of this year. Those volunteers—part of a larger core group of generous residents praised recently by Selectman Nick Williams—are Janet Lindstrom, Richard Rose, Martin Skrelunas and Terry Spring.

The selectmen also intend to review a request from “Market Master” Alexis Gazy to approve the Saturday Farmers’ Market in the former Center School (sigh) parking lot. The market would run May 11 to Nov. 23.

In the afternoon, town officials who belong to a “Traffic Calming Workgroup” will meet to discuss several town roads and intersections that need attention. They include the intersection of Park Street and Old Stamford Road (where plans have been introduced to install a traffic island), Route 106 at Carter Street and Millport Avenue between Lakeview and Main (the one-way stretch of that road).
