• Man, 60, Charged with DUI After Crash (newcanaanite.com) — Police say a 60-year-old Westport man was arrested for DUI after allegedly running a red light at Silvermine Road and causing a two-car crash at East Avenue and Route 123 in New Canaan late Aug. 6. Officers reported a strong odor of alcohol and breath tests more than twice the legal limit; the driver faces court on Aug. 21.
   

• Tizayi Sithole to receive 2026 Larry Powell Scholarship (golfcourseindustry.com) — A turfgrass professional working at the Country Club of New Canaan has been selected for the national 2026 Larry Powell Scholarship, supporting his Penn State master's studies. His goal is to advance turfgrass science, mentor young people, and eventually strengthen the industry in Africa, while representing New Canaan on a global professional stage.
   

• Ekert Sets Pace at 111th Met Open (mgagolf.org) — A golfer from the Country Club of New Canaan is among those just two shots off the lead after opening-round 67s at the 111th Met Open in New Jersey. The tournament at Essex County Country Club features a tightly packed leaderboard and continues with a cut after Wednesday's second round, showcasing many of the region's top professionals and amateurs.
