New Canaan Selectmen To Consider Public Works, Information Technology Requests During Meeting: Agenda (patch.com) — New Canaan residents can expect the Board of Selectmen on Tuesday morning to review contracts for new lamp posts at the Center School parking lot and Waveny Park, along with other Public Works purchases. The board will also weigh key Information Technology renewals, election software, and several town hires, including positions in IT and the Highway Department.

New Canaan Schools To Celebrate Walk To School Day With Upcoming Event (patch.com) — Families in New Canaan can look forward to Walk to School Day on Oct. 9, when South Elementary and Saxe Middle students are encouraged to walk with support from local police and town staff. The event is part of New Canaan's Safe Routes to School effort, with designated drop-off spots so even those living farther away can join in safely.

New Canaan Beautification League Honored by Lee Garden Arboretum Status (newcanaansentinel.com) — Lee Memorial Garden in New Canaan has just been accredited as a Level 1 Arboretum, recognizing decades of volunteer care by the New Canaan Beautification League. The 2.7-acre garden at 89 Chichester Road is open daily, free of charge, and offers guided spring tours by reservation. Locals can also schedule group visits or volunteer to help maintain this woodland gem.
   

4. Lobsterfest Expands Impact on Local Nonprofits (newcanaansentinel.com) — New Canaan's Rotary Club used its latest Lobsterfest to raise $61,000, now being distributed as larger, more strategic grants to 31 nonprofits. The event's move to Waveny House and restaurant-style service helped boost fundraising, with $5,000 awards going to groups tackling food insecurity, basic needs, and health. Organizers are already planning next year's two-day Waveny return.
   

5. 72-Year-Old Connecticut Grandmother Becomes Social Media Star (wearedanbury.com) — A 72-year-old New Canaan grandmother, Babs Costello, has become a national social media sensation as "Brunch With Babs," sharing cooking tips, household hacks, and motherly advice on TikTok and Instagram. Starting during the pandemic at her daughter's urging, she's now amassed well over a million followers and even appeared on Drew Barrymore's show, all while still filming from her New Canaan home.
