📰 News we're reading
1. New Survey (newcanaansentinel.com) — New Canaan residents 18 and older are being asked to take a short, anonymous Community Health & Well-Being Survey throughout October to update the town's understanding of mental health, stress, and access to care. Results from the 2024 survey already drove new grants, programs, and outreach, and officials now want to see whether those efforts are helping and where needs are changing.

2. [UPDATED] Waveny Playground Event Highlights Inclusive Play (newcanaansentinel.com) — New Canaan has secured more than $1.44 million in state funding to improve the inclusive Waveny playground and replace the Lakeview Avenue bridge, combining grants with town money and private donations. Local and state leaders say the upgraded playground's accessible design will better serve children of all abilities while the bridge project and park enhancements strengthen everyday infrastructure for families across town.

3. New Canaan residents push back on plan for 150-unit senior community (ctinsider.com) — New Canaan residents are organizing against Waveny LifeCare Network's idea for a 150‑unit senior living community on 50 acres of town-owned land near the Merritt Parkway and Route 106, arguing it would sacrifice valued open space. Waveny counters that the town's fast-growing senior population lacks housing options and says the project, financed without town funds, would let more older residents remain in New Canaan as their needs change.

4. Inside Week 4 of CIAC football: Unbeatens, an A+ grade and a turnabout (ncadvertiser.com) — New Canaan's top-ranked football team finally surrendered its first points of the season but still rolled past New Britain 47–14, extending a remarkable state-leading winning streak to 27 games. The broader CIAC Week 4 roundup shows how the Rams' dominance fits into a shifting statewide playoff picture, with several other programs also surging after years of struggle.
