PD: New Canaan Man Arrested After Being Caught Breaking into Cars

The man allegedly broke into cars at a Locust Avenue condominium complex.

A New Canaan man was arrested after he allegedly broke into a vehicle at a Locust Avenue condominium complex.

A resident saw a man outside on August 2 around 3:30 a.m. inside a car, police said.

The resident confronted the man, who then left the vehicle and began walking away. He had allegedly attempted to break into two other vehicles.

Police found the man, identified as Dayle Wayton, 22, of New Canaan in the parking lot and detained him. He allegedly stole an iPhone, cigarettes and some cash.

He was charged with second-degree burglary, two counts of attempted burglary and fifth-degree larceny.

A New Canaan K-9 unit responded to the scene, but the man had been found in the area already.
