Police Arrest Two in Alleged New Canaan Cash Checking Scheme
Outgoing checks were being stolen from mailboxes, fraudulently signed-over and cashed, police said.

Police have arrested two people and plan to arrest a third in connection with an alleged check cashing scheme in New Canaan.
The police investigation started in November when a man on Briscoe Road reported that 10 outgoing checks had been stolen from his mailbox between Oct. 24 and Oct. 25.

Six of the 10 were cashed by Oct. 28. Most of the checks were business type.
More than $1,200 worth of checks were stolen and cashed in November.

Police worked with banks to identify the people making the deposits, according to police.
The department got other reports of similar issues with checks not being deposited into the right account.One report came from Lukeswood Road and another on Smith Ridge Road.
Apparently the checks were being fraudulently signed over, police said.
Christopher Cyr, 24 of Bridgeport was arrested in Bridgeport on unrelated charges. New Canaan Police charged him with three counts of fourth-degree larceny and eight counts of second-degree forgery.
Michael Lasky, 22 of Bridgeport was charged with six counts of liability for acts of another, three counts of fourth-degree larceny and three counts of second-degree forgery.
A warrant has also been obtained for a woman, police said.
