Police: NCHS Student Arrested After Panicking, Leaving Accident Scene in Lot

The 18-year-old woman said she took her friend's car for a drive around the school parking lot, accidentally hit a car and panicked.

An 18-year-old woman was arrested at New Canaan High School after she allegedly took a friend’s car for a ride in the parking lot and left the scene after smashing into another vehicle.

Police began investigating on May 29 after a report of a two vehicle accident at he high school, police said.

A bus driver said he witnessed a blue Audi sedan traveling in the rear parking lot at a high rate of speed. The vehicle stopped suddenly, went into reverse and struck a parked vehicle, according to police.

Minutes later the same officer was dispatched to the front parking lot at the school for a report of an accident involving a parked vehicle.

A 20-year-old male said he believed someone hit his Audi while it was parked. The witness said vehicle was a blue Audi sedan and damage was consistent with the Nissan Altima that was struck.

The man said he gave his keys to a friend so she could retrieve her phone charger from the car.

Police spoke with the 18-year-old New Canaan woman. She allegedly admitted that she decided to take the vehicle for a drive around the school and that she panicked when she hit the car in the rear of the school.

She was charged with operating a motor vehicle without a license, evading responsibility and using a vehicle without the owner’s permission. She posted a $100 bond.
