Scammer Targets New Canaan Residents: Police
Police said the scammer demanded payment from New Canaan residents or else their family members would be harmed.
NEW CANAAN, CT — New Canaan residents this week were targeted by a scammer who threatened to harm their family members in the process, according to police.
In a news release, Police Chief Leon Krolikowski said residents reported receiving unsolicited text messages Thursday from the phone number 203-571-3124.
According to Krolikowski, the scammer demanded payment or the residents' family members would be harmed.

"These messages are scams," Krolikowski said in a news release, "and are a part of a national trend."

- Never give personal information to unknown persons over the telephone or electronically.
- Be suspicious of unsolicited telephone calls, voice messages, text messages, and e-mails.
- Never communicate with these scammers and block the scammer’s telephone number and e-mail address.
- Never wire or send money in response to an unknown person who makes an unexpected demand.
