Sierra Club Endorses Sen. Toni Boucher for Re-election

An announcement from state Sen. Toni Boucher’s campaign for re-election:

The Sierra Club has announced their endorsement of state Sen. Toni Boucher’s candidacy for re-election the Connecticut State Senate.

In a statement issued Sept. 28, Martin Mandor, Political and Legislative Chair of the Sierra Club’s Connecticut Chapter, cited Senator Boucher for her “commitment to environmental issues and strong record of environmental support in the legislature.”

Referring to Senator Boucher, Mandor remarked, “The Sierra Club is confident that you will be a strong advocate for protecting the environmental heath and thus the quality of life in Connecticut, and that you will prove a valued and reliable friend of the environment.”

In receiving the endorsement, Senator Boucher (R-26th District) said, “I’m proud to be supported by the Sierra Club and the 8,000 members of its Connecticut Chapter. Preserving Connecticut’s natural environment has always been one of my priorities. I’ve fought to reduce air pollution by upgrading our mass transit systems and encouraging use of electric vehicles; I wrote legislation to establish a Greenway along the Route 7 and the Norwalk River; I’ve supported clean water acts, brownfield remediation, open space preservation and the Long Island Sound Protection Fund. Connecticut’s natural environment is one of our state’s greatest equities, and we must preserve it now and for the future.”

Boucher is chief deputy Senate minority leader, Ranking member for the General Assembly’s Transportation, Education and Higher Education Committees and member of the Revenue, Finance and Bonding Committee.

Her district includes Bethel, New Canaan, Redding, Ridgefield, Weston ,Westport and Wilton.

The Sierra Club, founded in 1892, is the oldest and largest environmental group in the country.

In August, Senator Boucher was recognized by the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters for her efforts to promote land preservation, improve statewide water planning and reduce air pollution.
