Snow Day Mozzarella from St. Luke's School

One Delicious Way to Seize the Snow Day

In an age of ever more elaborate snow day announcements, St. Luke’s Acting Head of School, Julia Gabriele, kept it simple: “I focused more on what to do with the gift of time. I'm always encouraging our kids to take advantage of a snow day to do something they don’t normally have time for midweek. This time, I decided to show them.”

Gabriele invited St. Luke’s sophomore Nicole Ayoub, a neighbor, to join her and the two cooked up a storm (Storm is the school’s mascot) making fresh mozzarella. The step by step lesson is shared below and was a big hit on St. Luke’s Facebook.

“Julia is the epitome of a Renaissance woman,” said Head of School Mark Davis who returns from sabbatical in April. “It does not surprise me in the least that she would find a way to make a snow day educational, fun and nutritious!”
