The National Weather Service has issued a Special Weather Statement as stormy weather moves through parts of Connecticut.

The National Weather Service has issued a Special Weather Statement for most of southern Connecticut including Fairfield, New Haven and Middlesex counties. It appears the rain is not over as clasps of thunder and bolts of lightning can be seen in parts of southern Connecticut.

"At 515 PM EDT, a strong thunderstorm was located near Brentwood, moving north at 85 mph. Numerous thunderstorms were also located across move of central Long Island and southwest Connecticut. Winds in excess of 40 mph, pea sized hail, and torrential rainfall are all possible with these storms. The rain may cause localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways," the National Weather Service states.

Showers and thunderstorms could be with us until 11 p.m. and then it tapers off after that. Another half of an inch of rain is possible. There could be more rain showers Friday afternoon too before we see drying this weekend and temps will rise into the 60s by Monday.
