New Canaan Scores and Standings: Oct. 24

The New Canaan Red fourth grade football team dropped a 20-14 decision to Wilton in a battle of undefeated squads.

New Canaan took an early lead as Robert Evans scored on a 60-yard run on the second play from scrimmage for his 14th touchdown of the season. Ryan McAleer kicked the extra point to give New Canaan an 8-0 lead after two minutes.

Great blocks were made by Thomas Marshall, Charlie Mullaney, Alec Kazlauskis, Steven Hoge, Nick Gilio and McAleer to spring Evans.

Wilton put together a 15-play drive on its ensuing possession, but was stopped at the six-inch line. Outstanding defensive efforts were made by Tyler Saitta, Thomas Marshall, Greg Korsun, Charlie Mullaney, Nicky Hoge, Nick Gilio, Andrew Smith, Evans and McAleer.

New Canaan's next drive ended with an incomplete pass. Wilton then scored, but the two-point attempt was stopped cold by Marshall, Korsun, Colby Gardiner, Dylan McDonald, Xander Arnone and Tyler Saitta. New Canaan maintained an 8-6 lead at the half.

Wilton scored on its first possession of the second half to go up 12-8, but New Canaan quickly answered on its first play of the third quarter as  McAleer scored on a 45-yard TD run. The extra point was no good, leaving New Canaan Red with a 14-12 lead.

Wilton scored on its next possession and converted a two-point play to grab a 20-14 advantage. It was the fourth lead change in a back-and-forth contets.

New Canaan tried to respond agair, but it was stopped one yard short of a first down at Wilton's 20-yard line.

The New Canaan sixth grade girls Black soccer team team battled Fairfield to a 1-1 tie in a makeup game on Saturday.

The contest started off at a fast pace with Fairfield managing three attempts on goal early, but it was turned back by New Canaan goalkeeper Annaleah Neugeboren. Zoe Jones provided leadership for New Canaan.

In the second half, New Canaan opened the scoring as Allie Neugeboren  passed to Paulina Cortina, who found a way to get the ball in the net. The lead held up until the final minute when Fairfield scored the tying goal.
