St. Luke's Debate Team Victory

The St. Luke's School Debate Team endured formidable competitors and a long day at the Newark Invitational Debate Tournament on January 4 but came out victorious.  In the Novice division of Lincoln Douglas debating, our St. Luke’s team took on the challenging topic of whether developing countries should prioritize environmental protection over resource extraction when the two are in conflict.

Three New Canaan residents, eighth graders Chloe Kekejian and Claire Wilson won debates against high school students and sophomore Eliza Posner won overall second place and second place speaker. Co-captain Eliza remarked, “I'm really glad that the debate turned out well because it took our team a lot of time to prepare for this tournament.” Head of School Mark Davis applauded the team: "Our students deserve great credit for their effort and accomplishments, especially considering the quality of the competition. They did a superb job and have developed great leadership skills in the process.”
