St. Luke's Fifth Graders Visit Aldrich Museum
St. Luke's students take field trip to local art museum

Last week St. Luke’s fifth graders visited the Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art in Ridgefield. On their arrival, they were introduced to the museum by Danielle Ogden, the Aldrich’s lead educator.
The students got the opportunity to learn more in smaller groups guided by docents where they engaged in some good Q & A and participated in writing and drawing exercises.
The three exhibitions each group visited were: Cary Smith’s “Your Eyes They Turn Me”, David Scanavino’s “Imperial Texture”, and Mary Beth Edelson’s “Six Story Gathering Boxes”.

Many SLS students are now experimenting in art class with using masking tape in their paintings, inspired by the clean painted edges that Smith used in his remarkable color studies.
They also loved walking on Scanavino’s installation of colorful floor tiles that extended up the walls of the room, and were mystified by the collection of carefully crafted storage bins that contained what seemed to be secrets, which comprised Edelson’s installation.

It was fun, being surprised once again by the creative exhibits at the Aldrich. As many students wrote on reflection about the visit, “Art can be anything!”
