St. Luke's Student Selected For ANNpower Vital Voices Initiative

St. Luke's School Sarabeth Davis '16 selected for special program challenging young women to transform ideas into action.

St. Luke’s junior Sarabeth Davis was selected for the ANNpower Vital Voices Initiative. Started by ANN INC. and Vital Voices, more than 5000 young women from around the country applied for this special program but only 50 were chosen as ANNpower Fellows.

Fellows participate in the ANNpower Vital Voices Leadership Forum, a three-day leadership training and mentorship program in Washington, DC. After participating in the Forum, the Fellows are challenged to transform their ideas for positive social change into action, and are eligible to receive ANNpower Grants of up to $2,500 to help them to implement projects in their communities.

Sarabeth is excited about being part of this fellowship because it “refines young women’s potential, and gives them the confidence and skills necessary to work for positive change. This attracted me because despite having passion, I need further skills to make my voice effective.” She added, “I feel lucky to attend the conference and to be part of a network of likeminded girls and women. I know the energy will be infectious.”

Sarabeth’s initiative will focus on teaching children about marine ecosystems through artistic mediums. She wants “each child to walk away with a meaningful appreciation for the ocean and a visceral drive to conserve it.” After spending a semester at The Island School, Sarabeth’s eyes were opened to see beyond the beauty to the real challenges that face our oceans. Sarabeth concluded, “It became clear to me that I needed to introduce the magic of the ocean to children and help them learn how they can preserve it for the future.”
