St. Luke's Students Attend Diversity Conference
St. Luke's students, faculty and Head of School attend timely diversity conference in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Eight St. Luke’s students and seven faculty members including Head of School Mark Davis traveled to Indianapolis, Indiana for the National Association of Independent Schools’ Student Diversity Leadership Conference/People of Color Conference. In the wake of recent events around the country, the conference felt especially timely and important.
Students participated in activities and discussions about the diverse community of independent schools and the importance of cross-cultural communication skills. Students also learned how to facilitate conversations about diversity, privilege, and inclusion at school. “At the conference, I never felt alone. I now know what it means to be part of a community that embraces all people” shared Sophomore Gabby Finley. “I learned that I need to stand up to ignorance and educate others, no matter how hard it seems. I also learned to be confident and that I am not alone in this work.”
The students who attended the national conference are members of the Student Diversity Leadership Council. This group is currently leading a discussion, “#BeyondFerguson: An SLS Conversation about Race and Justice in the United States”, planning St. Luke’s upcoming second annual SLS Social Justice Leadership Summit scheduled for January 31, planning the Connecticut Student Diversity Leadership Conference and helping our community think more deeply about inclusion
