Stamford Teen Crashes Into New Canaan Police Cruiser: Cops

The incident began with a high-speed chase.

NEW CANAAN, CT — A 15-year-old Stamford boy led New Canaan police officers on a high-speed chase Friday afternoon which ended when the teen crashed into a utility pole and police cruiser in the parking lot of Saxe Middle School, according to authorities.

No injuries were reported in the incident, which occurred just before 5 p.m. A New Canaan officer tried to pull over the vehicle on Millport Avenue for a defective brake light when it sped off. Three people were in the vehicle at the time, and it was later discovered that it was being driven illegally by the 15-year-old.

The car turned onto Lakeview Avenue and into a condominium parking lot where two people jumped out of the vehicle and ran behind the condos. A search for the two by police and police dogs came up empty.

The juvenile then drove off again, striking a police car multiple times and nearly running over an officer.

Finally, the damaged vehicle pulled onto Farm Road and into Saxe where it struck the pole and the police cruiser again.

The teen, whose name was not disclosed due to his age, was apprehended and charged with reckless driving, engaging an officer in pursuit, driving without a license, criminal trover, interfering with an officer, and criminal attempt at assault on a police officer. He was turned over to juvenile authorities and is being held in a juvenile detention facility.
