STAR Closes For The Day For New Canaan Clients And Others, First Of 6 Planned Shutdown Days

The Norwalk-based organization serves people from Darien, New Canaan, Norwalk, Westport, Weston and Wilton with developmental disabilities.

NORWALK, CT — Due to the continued lack of a state budget, STAR, Inc. Lighting the Way, the Norwalk-based organization that helps people with developmental and intellectual disabilities, was closed on Thursday, July 26, one of six forced closures the agency has planned, reports the Wilton Bulletin.

The shutdown affected the clients the organization serves from Darien, New Canaan, Norwalk, Westport, Weston and Wilton.

With no state budget, non-profits like STAR Lighting the Way will not receive some state funding under Gov. Dannel Malloy's Emergency Resource Allocation Plan, which cuts money to such groups.
