Stolen Vehicle Recovered In New Canaan, Window Smashed: Police

Police said items such as cash and credit and debit cards were recently stolen from vehicles parked in New Canaan.

NEW, CANAAN, CT — A vehicle reported stolen in New Jersey was recently found parked at a home in New Canaan, according to police.

In a news release, Chief of Police Leon Krolikowski said the department received a report Tuesday, around 7:30 p.m., of a suspicious vehicle parked on the lawn of a Hillcrest Road home for much of the day.

Officers discovered the car had been reported stolen out of Booton, N.J., and two credit cards were found inside the vehicle. The credit cards did not belong to the owner of the vehicle and the owner did not recognize the name on the cards, Krolikowski said.

Minutes later, debit and credit cards, as well as $95 in cash, were reported stolen from a vehicle parked at Irwin Park. Krolikowski said the vehicle was locked at the time of the incident, however its windows were slightly open.

The department also received a call Tuesday from a New York resident regarding items from a stolen vehicle found in New Canaan. The vehicle was stolen from a Port Chester, N.Y., home, however it is unclear how the items from inside the stolen vehicle ended up in New Canaan, Krolikowski said.

Police urge residents to always lock their vehicles and take keys with them, to secure valuables and never leave valuables in a vehicle. According to Krolikowski, identity theft often occurs when driver's licenses and credit cards are stolen.
