Storms Damage New Canaan's Coffers: Report

The four March storms were particularly difficult for the town's Department of Public Works.

NEW CANAAN, CT — Fighting the 2017-18 winter storms in New Canaan racked up budget overages of about $300,ooo for the town's Department of Public Works, according to DPW Director Tiger Mann, reports the New Canaan Advertiser.

To close the budget hole, the department is seeking a special appropriation of about $200,000, and will reduce overtime spending to the tune of another $100,000.

The four March storms were particularly difficult for the department, as New Canaan grappled with extensive tree damage, additional plowing, road maintenance and other factors.
