Suicide Case At Silver Hill Hospital Reopened By State: Report
The estate of former patient Leo J. Civitillo filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the hospital in October.
NEW CANAAN, CT — The state Department of Public Health recently reopened its investigation into the 2018 suicide of former patient Leo J. Civitillo at New Canaan-based Silver Hill Hospital, a move by the state that was prompted by reporting by the Hartford Courant.
Civitillo's estate filed a wrongful death lawsuit in October against the hospital over what it claims were lapses in Civitillo's care, including access to a cell phone and tablet computer, which he was not supposed to have.
The Courant found other concerns over Civitillo's time at the facility, in addition to the state's seemingly lackadaisical probe into the matter, which the publication writes took more than a year to happen.

Civitillo was a Wall Street banker who had attempted suicide before, according to the lawsuit which also claims that certain policies, such as bed checks, were not properly performed by staff.
