Suspect Caught Making Fraudulent iPhone Purchase: New Canaan PD
The incident occurred Tuesday evening on Elm Street in New Canaan.
NEW CANAAN, CT — A 65-year-old Bronx, NY man was arrested by New Canaan police on forgery, identity theft and related charges on Tuesday after he tried to buy an $1,100 iPhone from Verizon using someone else's credit card information, according to officials.
In addition to second-degree forgery and third-degree identity theft, Thomas O. Welborn also was charged with credit card theft and criminal attempt at fourth-degree larceny.
The incident occurred at about 7:30 p.m. at the Verizon store on Elm Street in New Canaan when staff alerted police about the attempted fraudulent purchase.

"Welborn had in his possession a fraudulent New Jersey driver's license and a credit card with the same name on it as the fraudulent New Jersey driver's license," stated New Canaan police.
Officers took Welborn into custody, and he was held in lieu of bail of $10,000. He was scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on April 24.
