The vocal talent at St. Luke’s School in New Canaan soared above and beyond during a winter acapella competition for the Upper School—our own version of NBC's The SingOff. Organized by Music Department Chair Dale D. Griffa, the competition took place in rounds with faculty judges choosing two finalists from eleven competing teams in the first round.
The arrangements were as creative as the names, and in the end the Rolling Tones faced off against the Dunkin’ Do-Notes. In the second and final round, the Upper School audience cast the "audience favorite" vote. The Dunkin’ Do-Notes rendition of “Little Talks” by Of Monsters and Men was strong, but it was the The Rolling Tones’ take on “Cry Me A River” by Justin Timberlake that won the SLS Sing Off with 54% of the votes. The winning group included Stamford residents, Hannah DeLoe and Brian Kollar.
Mr. Griffa admired the way students took initiative:“I loved watching how they made their way, creating their groups and arrangements on their own. Sometimes when teaching them, you never know what they’re absorbing. It was awe-inspiring to see them independently apply what they’ve learned.”
