Take the Change, Leave the GPS: Cars Burglarized in New Canaan

The thief or thieves didn't even want the foreign coins.

A thief or thieves decided to break into three vehicles in New Canaan, but the only thing stolen was change.

All the vehicles were entered in the overnight hours between August 9 and 10, police said.

A number of vehicles have been broken into in Darien as well. It is unknown if the incidents are related.

One vehicle was broken into on East Maple Street and $7 in quarters was taken. The vehicle owner said it was left unlocked. He also saw someone riding a bike around 3 a.m. with a headlamp on, but didn’t think it was suspicious at the time.

A Hoyt Street resident reported that the interior of her unlocked vehicle was rummaged through and change was taken from the center console. A GPS, her license and credit cards were left alone.

She said her dogs were crazily barking around 3 a.m., but she thought it was just an opossum.

A vehicle on East Avenue was rummaged through, but nothing was taken, police said.
