Teen iPhone Thieves Busted By New Canaan PD

The two juveniles from Norwalk allegedly took the cell phones from New Canaan High School.

NEW CANAAN, CT — A pair of juveniles from Norwalk were arrested on larceny charges by New Canaan police after the two allegedly stole iPhones during a recent sporting event at New Canaan High School, according to authorities.

The identities of the two suspects - one 16-years-old and one 17-years-old - were not disclosed due to their ages.

"During the time of the incident multiple sporting events were occurring but through a review of video surveillance, two suspects were identified and observed stealing the phones from backpacks," wrote New Canaan police in a statement.

The two separate backpacks had been left in the lobby area of the school's gym, near where the activities were taking place. School resource officers from New Canaan and Norwalk, and a New Canaan police youth division sergeant, teamed up to investigate the incident and identify the suspects.

The 16-year-old, who was alleged to have taken an iPhone 8, was charged with fifth-degree larceny, while the 17-year-old, who allegedly took an iPhone 6, was charged with sixth-degree larceny.

Both cases have been referred to juvenile court.
