The True Meaning of Sportsmanship: New Canaan Girls U12 Red Soccer Has A Near Miss Against Newtown Blue

April 24, 13 - The New Canaan U12 Girls Red Soccer team, coached by Barry Beattie, lost 3 - 2 versus Newtown Blue this past Wednesday evening. It was a fast moving game and the girls played very well against this tough team. During the first half, Sarah Spadacinni made several saves as goalie, helped out by a strong defensive line up with Joelle Anselmo, Jessie Eccleston and Lauren Sampson. Jessie Dolby, Kendall Patten, Katelyn Sparks and Lucy Coutts kept the ball moving from mid-field, while India Otero, Claire Ross and Ryan Mushkin, and Whitney Bryant played offense. There were several shots on goal from Kayla Beck, Claire Ross, Kendall Patten, Bridget Salmini and Ryan Mushkin. Our first goal finally came with a cross from Libby Tedford to India Otero, who kicked it in and scored. During the second half, Libby Tedford made several key saves as goalie. Joelle Anselmo, KK Marcus and Sarah Spadacinni played strong defense. Our second goal, was another team effort, a pass by Lauren Sampson to Kayla Beck and then to India Otero, who scored again. After the game, both teams sat together and had a picnic of pizza, chips, and drinks organized by Deb Dolby with an assist by Suzanne Ross.
